The Owl and the Pussycat is a romantic comedy by Bill Manhoff. The play involves two characters: a saucy, flirtatious would-be actress (who works by night as a call girl) and a reclusive, bookish, wannabe writer (who works by day as a retail associate). The unlikely neighbors come to like each other despite their differences.

An aspiring author Felix catches an eyeful with his binoculars and spies on a call girl plying her trade. He complains to the landlord, has her evicted, and finds he has trouble pounding on his door in the form of Doris, not a call girl but an aspiring "model and actress”.  She figures he owes her a bed for the night, an arrangement that winds up in them sharing accommodations. They couldn't be more different. Yet each has something to offer the other.

Felix introduces Doris to the delights of the intellect. Doris can offer something sorely missing from Felix's life: female companionship. Doris sees potential in Felix and falls for him quickly. Felix, who has been alone for a long time, is slow to respond to Doris' charms. They're polar opposites.

Dinner on-your-own.
